My project explores adaptable housing for families experiencing displacement, aiming to provide stability without sacrificing privacy or comfort. The building is organized around a central service spine containing all fixed programs, while an enfilade of 15’x15’ rooms arranged on a 5’ grid allows units to expand or contract between two and four units.

Externally, the architecture presents a rigid and simple form with a 5’x5’ window in each room, making the structural logic legible on the facade. Inside, that same grid enables a highly adaptable living environment. Units can merge or separate through three strategic pocket doors at the kitchen, playroom, and stairs, allowing 2 separate units to open up to one big unit depending on the size of families that need housing. A sawtooth roof reflects the industrial location of the site and vertical light wells bring daylight deep into the space, while shared ground floor green spaces and amenities support communal use and reinforce the building’s role as a flexible model for transitional housing.

This approach keeps the dwelling fully occupied and economically viable, but more importantly, it gives families the dignity of privacy, autonomy, and stability while they rebuild
